Thank you for choosing our hotel. We hope you have a pleasant stay and a unique experience in what is considered to be “The Gateway to Frank Lloyd Wright Territory”. We take pride in the architecture of our hotel along with the surrounding attractions and beautiful landscape of the lower Wisconsin River Valley.
The original landowner sold the property in the 1950’s to Bud Keeland, land developer and son-in-law of Johnson Wax, of Racine, Wisconsin. He developed the first eighteen hole golf course at The Springs which is now known as The House on the Rock Resort.
Later the land was purchased, transferred and in turn sold to Euroactivade. In the 1990’s, Euroactivade commissioned Taliesin and the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation to design a visitor’s center, which is now where our lounge, Pat’s Place, is located. The building was constructed by Kraemer Brothers of Plain, Wisconsin.
In 1991 the current owners, John and Patricia Rasmussen, purchased the visitor’s center and land. They started development of Spring Valley Inn by turning the existing visitor’s center into the reception area and lounge, known as Pat’s Place, and then constructed the thirty five room hotel. In 1994, the Rasmussen’s added the indoor pool, fitness center and conference room.
Charles Montooth, an apprentice to Frank Lloyd Wright and member of the Taliesin Associated Architects, was instrumental in blending the existing visitor’s center with the new addition. The fabric patterns, furniture, and lighting were all Frank Lloyd Wright inspired, in addition to the building itself. The furniture in the rooms and restaurant (bar, chairs, tables) were designed by former Taliesin architect, James Pfefferkorn, and constructed by local Master Craftsman, Rick Kraemer.
John and Patricia Rasmussen are the original and current owners and operate the hotel along with their sons.
We hope you enjoy what our hotel and the area has to offer. We think Spring Green is a special place and hope you find it to be as well.
Best Wishes From Our Family to Yours,
The Rasmussens
